People Engaged in Terrorist Acts

Blind Confidential has taken its longest vacation since we started nearly three years ago.  I started whirling about a set of ideas for a very cool, ultra gonzo piece that would wind my real life trips to South Beach, India and a few other places that Gonz, Samhara, BC and his wife and our usual cast of characters have visited over the past 3 months.  Then, the freaks at PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) had one of its Vice Presidents do an interview in which he rails against using animals as guide dogs because such a practice is too cruel to the critters.

The US Department of Homeland Security says that, among domestic terrorists, the radical wing of the environmental movement including members of ALF (Animal Liberation Front) and ELF (Environment Liberation Front)cause the greatest amount of domestic terrorism when Oklahoma City is removed from the equation.

Virtually every member of ALF arrested for various terrorist acts were also members of PETA.  Like the IRA, PETA serves as the public, political face while ALF makes the bombs.  Most horrible of all, ALF has recently started adding anti-personnel weapons to their weapons of property destruction.  Specifically, at a number of sites, bombs timed to explode 20 minutes after the first set were left behind to spray shrapnel at the responders (firemen, police and other public servants).  While I oppose the acts against property, learning that ALF is now going after firemen, guys who risk their lives to help us remain safe, is beyond my personal level of comprehension and, those of you who have read the gonzo stuff here know that my imagination can take me places rarely visited by regular people.

My fear is that some deranged grizzly bear hugger will try to sneak up on a guide dog school, liberate a bunch of sweet Labradors and torch the place, possibly hurting or even killing the people who work nights at such places.

The PETA spokesman who talked so angrily about guide dogs also provided a list of misleading statements about people with vision impairment – including that we cannot tell if our dogs are healthy or not  and other statements that make us sound like we have major intellectual impairments.

So, from here on out, the world of Blind Confidential declares that PETA will stand for People Engaging in Terrorist Acts and challenges any PETA freak to a one on one debate with a person we select against one of their own in an online debate over the subject.

Hence, we challenge any of you fruitcake terrorists to actually engage someone who actually knows how wonderful our guide dogs are and how terrific working animals have it when compared to pets who spend most days bored.

  1. this is great. I’ve hated PETA for so long, and when the insulted me as a guide dog owner my hatred got even stronger. I posted a link to the PETA statement on facebook and my sighted friends were appauled. They know that my guide is loved and well cared for. I really enjoy reading blind confidential and hope that you will be posting more soon.

  2. I understand you correctly, you are making the claim, without reference to actual sources, that some ALF members are or were also PETA members.

Well, what if they were also members of the Rotary Club?

You seem to suggest that the leadership of PETA is aware of and in some way abetting illegal actvity by acting as a legitimate front for a terrorist group. Where’s your evidence?

  3. Peta has never changed their agenda from day one except because they couldn’t get most people on board of getting rid of (quote) all working dogs (end quote) they decided the best way is to divide and concord. Instead of going after the bigger piece of the pie as it were which includes no more k9 corp, no more search and rescue and no more service dogs for the disabled, their going after the blind and organizations that’s involved with the blind. In hopes of being successful so they could then go after another disability. (eg Autism).

They want people to think that the blind individuals cannot take care of their guides. The stereotyping that has come up out of the ugly head.

As far as the Peta and ALF well I can say it’s intertwine all the way up to the high staff members, just like the shared board members with HSUS and Peta! And we will just leave it at that.

  4. Howdy Comrades!
At last, another post from BC! I’d begun to fear a blind hating geek had finally snuffed old CDH or that Susan tired of his antics and executed a contract hit. As for PITA, those misguided idiots are also on my shit list. They even got to the late Kurt Vonnegut who claimed in one of his later novels that dog guides had “the bark beaten out of them.” I hope they take your bait.
    Chairman Mal
    Power to the Peeps!

  5. While PETA seems to have a total lack of knowledge about animals, I’ve heard things from the Nat’l Fed of the Blind that made my blood boil as well (the ony I’m thinking of is a complete misinterpretation of a book which has been turned into a crappy movie). Any group can say the damndest things. The best way to fight them is EDUCATION– of the groups, or of the masses who might listen to the groups, and ESPECIALLY of the politicians who might listen to the groups. I’ve heard the US has been considering banning guide ponies because they are not “household animals”– despite the clear benefits a long-lived guide pony has to offer.
